CHERRY HARVEST DINNER
when: Sunday, June 29 at 5:00 PM
where: The cherry orchard at Idiot's Grace
why: To celebrate the harvest season
A good orchard is a rare thing, a good cherry orchard rarer still. Those places whose climates support the ripening of flavorful cherries— e.g. parts of Turkey and Japan, California, or Wasco County— are all imbued with a legendary identity tied to their fruit. We take Mosier's place along the global Cherry Meridian seriously, and invite you to celebrate the harvest with us. We will host a dinner, daringly, at the peak of cherry season. It will be a chance to eat well, drink well, and pause to celebrate high summer and ripe fruit.
The dinner will take place in the orchard under our old ‘Napoleon’ cherry trees. We'll set up some tables and chairs, and Brian has already put “warm, windless evening” on his weather vision board. We are honored to have the talented Julian Vera cooking a dinner that will involve as much local produce as we can muster. It will be served buffet style, so we promise everyone will leave well-fed. There will be live music, a dreamy atmosphere, our wine, and too many cherries for you to eat. (As always, we urge you to consume both wine and fresh fruit responsibly).
Last year we held an event in August, at the cusp of grape harvest, and it was modest enough that we charged no ticket price. This year we’ve been slightly more ambitious; the pleasure of a catered dinner in the orchard requires more infrastructure, so we’re offering tickets at cost, $65 each. We’ll cap the event at 100 people. Our events do sell out, and everyone attending will need a ticket for entry.
The ticket includes your meal and a glass of wine upon your arrival. Beyond that, all current releases will be available for purchase by the bottle. (While we're happy to offer advice if you're a particularly zealous food-wine pairer, the evening's menu will cordially throw an arm around anything we produce.) If you can envision the bottle you'd like to drink on the evening, ordering it in advance would be a great help to us.
Unfortunately, we're not allowed to have visiting pets in the orchard, so we ask that you leave your dogs at home.
